Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about epoxy and polyaspartic floor coatings — cure time, cost, durability, maintenance, and more.

How long does an epoxy or polyaspartic floor coating take to cure?

Cure time depends on the system used. Traditional epoxy coatings typically need 24–72 hours before light foot traffic and up to a week before parking vehicles. Polyaspartic topcoats cure much faster — often within a few hours — which is why many of our installations can be walked on the same day and driven on within 24–48 hours.

What factors affect the cost of an epoxy floor coating?

Cost depends on square footage, the condition of the existing concrete (cracks, previous coatings, moisture issues), the coating system selected (basic epoxy vs. multi-layer epoxy with polyaspartic topcoat), decorative flake or metallic finishes, and any anti-slip additives. We provide free, no-obligation on-site estimates so you get an accurate number for your specific space rather than a generic quote.

How do I maintain an epoxy or polyaspartic floor?

Routine maintenance is simple: sweep or dust-mop regularly to remove grit, and mop occasionally with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner and water. Avoid harsh degreasers or abrasive scrub pads on a regular basis, and wipe up chemical spills (like automotive fluids) when convenient, even though our coatings resist staining. Proper maintenance helps preserve the gloss and extends the life of the topcoat.

How durable are epoxy and polyaspartic floor coatings?

When installed correctly — with diamond-ground surface preparation and a proper multi-layer system — epoxy and polyaspartic coatings are extremely durable, resisting abrasion, impact, and everyday wear for many years. Durability depends heavily on surface prep, so we never skip diamond grinding or crack repair before coating.

Will my coated floor be able to handle hot tires?

Yes. Our garage floor systems use polyaspartic topcoats specifically because they resist hot tire pickup — the phenomenon where hot tires can lift and damage lower-quality epoxy coatings. This is one of the most common failure points for DIY or big-box epoxy kits, which is why we don't rely on epoxy alone for the topcoat.

What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic coatings?

Epoxy is an excellent basecoat — it bonds well to concrete and provides a strong foundation and color layer. However, epoxy alone can yellow under UV exposure and takes longer to cure. Polyaspartic is a more advanced topcoat chemistry that cures much faster, resists UV fading, and adds extra abrasion and chemical resistance. Primo Epoxy Flooring uses an epoxy basecoat paired with a polyaspartic topcoat on most jobs to get the strengths of both.

Do you offer a warranty on your flooring installations?

Yes. Primo Epoxy Flooring backs its installations with a 10-year limited warranty on workmanship. We're a family-owned business, so we stand behind every floor we install long after the job is complete.

Why is surface preparation so important?

The vast majority of coating failures — peeling, bubbling, delamination — happen because the concrete wasn't properly prepared before coating. We use diamond grinding to mechanically open the pores of the slab and repair cracks, pits, and control joints before any coating goes down. This creates a true mechanical bond rather than just a surface-level layer that can lift over time.

Are epoxy and polyaspartic coatings safe around pets and household chemicals?

Once fully cured, epoxy and polyaspartic coatings are safe for pets to walk on and are resistant to most common household and automotive chemicals, including oil, coolant, and cleaning products. The seamless surface is also easier to keep clean of pet hair and dander compared to bare concrete.

Can you coat outdoor spaces like patios and pool decks?

Yes. We install UV-stable polyaspartic systems specifically formulated for outdoor use, with optional anti-slip additives for pool decks, patios, and walkways. These systems are designed to handle direct sun exposure, temperature swings, and pool chemicals without fading or breaking down the way indoor-only coatings would.

How soon can I schedule an installation?

We offer free on-site estimates and, in many cases, same-day installation availability depending on your schedule and project scope. Contact us and we'll walk you through the timeline for your specific project.
